Ring announces Spotlight Cam
Another new device announcement has come out of Ring in a blog posting on their site. Following on from the Floodlight Cam product is a new range of smaller LED-lit security cameras intended to plug gaps in the coverage of any installed Floodlight Cams you might have.
The devices are similar to the other Ring camera products, 1080p video, two-way talk, and the included siren from the Floodlight Cam. All of these will hook into the usual Ring app features, which I covered in the Stick Up Cam review, to allow setting motion zones and sensitivity, and you'll receive the usual alerts through the app as well. The key difference witht these is the greater flexibility offered by the 3 models options. Wired, which plugs straight into a standard power socket, Battery which uses a similar removable battery pack approach to their new Video Doorbell model, and Solar, which couples the battery with the Stick-Up Cam solar panel to keep it charged.
I wasn't too keen on the Floodlight Cam given it's hard-wiring requirement, but having found the Stick Up Cam to work really well with the solar panel, I'm happy to see new options following that design. The new Cams look very compact and include lighting, albeit clearly lower intensity than the Floodlight Cam given the need to power it from a battery instead of purely mains power.
